Dr. Robert Cimer proudly joins the Ridgecrest Animal Hospital family with over three decades of dedicated service in pet animal medicine. A New Jersey native, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from Cook College, Rutgers University in 1984. He graduated from The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. After an educational and entertaining year in a Missouri farm animal practice, Dr. Cimer returned to New Jersey to practice small animal medicine for the next thirty-three years. He founded a highly successful practice in Toms River in 2003.
Dr. Cimer is adept in internal medicine and proficient in soft tissue surgery. He has over twenty years of experience in shelter and wildlife medicine. He is Fear Free certified and has National Veterinary Accreditation for interstate and international transport of pet animals. He is especially proud to bring to Ridgecrest Animal Hospital a new sphere of pet care- specialized medicine in pocket pets, rodents, ferrets, and rabbits.
A strong advocate for client education, Dr. Cimer has written numerous pet care pamphlets and truly believes the foundation of quality pet care starts with an informative and personal doctor-client relationship. In the ‘90s he served as an adjunct professor at Ocean County College, teaching a children’s class on responsible pet ownership, and a second course, First Aid for Pets, geared towards adult pet owners. Throughout his career, he had the privilege to mentor many aspiring veterinary technicians and future veterinarians who now have successful careers in veterinary medicine. Finally, Dr. Cimer is proud to have published his critically acclaimed memoir, “Almost a Real Doctor-One Veterinarian’s Struggle to Survive in a Dog-Eat-Dog World.” He is currently writing his second book, “The Pet Posse,” a children’s fictional tale starring his five pets set during Superstorm Sandy.
Outside the office, Dr. Cimer enjoys spending time with his wife, Elizabeth, and their three children, Aaron, Aidan, and Aryonna. He has been a loving pet parent to an ark full of animals, including birds, a white mouse, gerbils, chinchillas, rabbits, cats, and a multitude of canine children-the latest an Alaskan Malamute, named Sagan. He has been an avid runner for forty-five years, enjoys woodworking, and has a passion for writing.
